Match report

Broadfields started the season at the Middlesex Stadium in a re-arranged fixture following confirmation during the week that opposition Sloane's home pitch was in the process of being re-seeded and not playable.
On a warm Saturday afternoon Broadfields kicked off in their usual formation and immediately took control of the game with the midfield of Jack Rutherford, Jack Sikora, Jamie Moon, Rex Kimona and Sam O’Neil dominating the game.  The early pressure was rewarded when Billy Smith was tripped in the penalty box and Broadies were awarded a spot kick.  Smith himself stepped up but could only find the post.  Broadfields continued to press the opposition and half way through the half, a Smith shot deflected off a defenders legs and despite the keepers best efforts found its way over the line.
The next 15 minutes was a pure rampage on the Sloane goal yet somehow their keeper kept the score at 1-0.
The Blues went in 1-0 up at half time having played a strong 45 minutes.
Never has the cliche a ‘game of two halves’ been more appropriate. Sloane who were still in the game at 1-0 down came out fighting for the equalizer and Broadfields appeared to have thought the game was won and never really got back into their full stride.  With 15 minutes Sloane had equalised. Despite the lack lustre effort Broadfields still had a multitude of chances and Rutherford and Kimona both went close before Smith again was felled in the box for the Fighting Cocks second spot kick of the game. Sikora this time saw his penalty saved. Sloane by now had grown in confidence and believed they could win the game and a defence splitting pass with 15 minutes to go saw their striker round Gary White and slot home.  Despite Broadfields best efforts for the remainder of the game that is how the game ended and the Blues walked off wondering how they had conspired to lose 2-1. Must do better next week against West Essex.
