Match report

The fighting cocks continued their pre season with a midweek game against Kentish Town of the Spartan League.  The team was mainly made up of a mix between first team and reserves, yet not one player looked out of place.  This was the first game for 6 of the players with 3 new faces coming into the squad since last season.  Both teams started slowly but it was Broadfields who created the better of the opportunities with both flanks being used to good effect.  Unfortunately Broadfields were unable to apply the final product in front of goal but were rewarded when Dene Gardner found Billy Smith in behind the Kentish defence to lob over the oncoming Kentish keeper. Again Broadfields remained dominant exploiting the flanks well but were not convincing in front of the Town goal.  The shape of the whole team was comfortable which made Kentish look for the long ball each time.
The Kentish keeper made a superb double save from a well worked move.  Just before half time Kentish got an equaliser after some sloppy defending from a corner.
Both teams made changes at half time but again it was Broadfields who were dominating the Spartan team with the midfield over powering the 3 in the middle played by them.  The build up play from the back continued and Broadfields got their second of the game after a move down the left hand side bought a save from the Kentish keeper who could only parry to the Kentish defender who could only deflect it in to his own net.  The lead was short lived and 2 minutes after kick off Kentish levelled after some lazy defending.  Kentish were pushing to take the lead but Billy Tollands kept the score level with some great saves.
Broadfields young legs then began to tire but were still able to keep their passing game going and were unlucky not to take the lead again after a fantastic save from the home goalie from a Smith shot.  Broadfields pushed for a winner but were unable to produce in the final stages.
Its always pleasant to hear things after the game from the opposition “they’re the best passing team we have played against.”   This is a credit to a young Broadfields team who (on most occasions) looked to play from the back.
There will be two friendlies this Saturday.
