For the first time in the clubs history we have reached the final stage of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup where we will face off against Northwood FC. This will be the first competitive fixture between the two sides having met on many occasion in friendly ties.
Last Thursday night we faced Southern League Premier South side Hanwell Town in a hastily arranged semi-final tie in some tough playing conditions. After going down 1-0 around the 20 minute mark it looked like we could be for a long night against a side almost 50 places ahead of us in the pyramid. That was until Max Holland popped up with a superb solo goal driving from the halfway line to be the keeper just inside the area with a fierce strike. Our hosts were stunned and we were unlucky not to go in ahead at the break after having one cleared just off the line followed by a strike just wide of the post.
After the break and we picked up where we had left off in the first half by taking the game to our opponents. With some great passages of play we were finding openings but just could not find that second goal. With the game coming to a close Connor Spinks was thrust into the action with 20 minutes to go and a few minutes later popped up with what proved to be the winner, heading a powerful header past the goalkeeper from a Junior Paiva corner. There was still time for a heart in mouths moment as a The Geordies almost levelled things in additional time with a goalmouth scramble with the ball finding its way into our net only for the referee to blow up for a handball.
This win sets up a tie with our friends from Northwood with the game being played this Wednesday night at Uxbridge FC's ground, The Honeycroft. We look forward to what should be a great tie along with being a big occasion for the club.
Can we add one more twist to the tale on Wednesday night to this seemingly never ending season?
