Broadfields FC Withdraw from Herts Senior County League

Unfortunately, as some may already be aware, the club has decided to withdraw Broadfields FC from the Herts County Premier Division. A very tough decision for the club as we have enjoyed several successful years in the Herts County but one that we felt was right at this stage.

A number of managers have played their part over the past five seasons and all of whom we want to thank for their great contribution to the club both on and off the pitch.

When the side moved over to the Herts County from the Middlesex County League in 2014 it contained an already successful core of young players who had just won a league and cup double in winning the Middlesex Senior Reserve Division and Middlesex Junior Open Cup in the 2013/14 season. We then started life as Broadfields FC in the Hearts League in the 2014/15 season. By doing this it enabled these players to fulfil their potential further playing stronger opposition on a weekly basis and many of these players are still with the club because of this.

The sides greatest achievements were managing to gain promotion from Division One on the final day of the 2016/17 season and the memorable Anagram Record Trophy run in the 2017/18 season in which the side fell 2-0 to Catholic United in the final.

After a torrid start to the season last year, the club managed to retain its Premier Division status for the forthcoming 2019/20 season but unfortunately, we couldn’t stay in the league and reluctantly withdrew a few days before the AGM.

Several obstacles last year and lack of commitment from the calibre of player needed to compete in this Division resulted in an extremely poor season for the club and one which we would not like a repeat of. We tried to rebuild quickly in the close season, but a lot of damage was done, and we couldn’t guarantee the league that we wouldn’t have a repeat of last season's non-fulfilment of games etc. This would also not have been fair on any of our prospective opponents.

We owe a big thanks to the Herts County and their members who are made up of good and understanding people that managed to support us when we needed it most. A well organised league who we have greatest of respect for. We also want to thank all the clubs we came up against in the Herts County over the past few seasons and we want to wish you the best of luck for your forthcoming campaigns.

Lastly, we would also like to thank Sun Sports FC who hosted us last season and who have some of the best facilities around. A truly great set up there which enables hundreds of players to play football on a weekly basis.
